As a new patient your first visit may be different from what you have experienced at your previous dentist. The first time you visit our office we will over your medical and dental history, gather information regarding your dental concerns and your perception of needed dental treatment, provide an initial cleaning, and update any radiographs. The next part of the initial consultation is an hour-long baseline examination, providing tooth examination, full periodontal examination, TMJ/range of motion/bite analysis examination, radiographic examination, oral cancer screening, esthetic and smile analysis, and a full mouth of photographs. Sometimes this exam can take multiple visits while for more complicated cases we will need to take a full set of dental models and additional records.
With all this recorded data we will take a tour of your mouth and address any problems or concerns. I like to describe this as a patient centered comprehensive treatment plan. We fully engage our patients to customize treatment plans in pressure free environment to focus on their concerns.
This initial examination can be coordinated in a single visit or over multiple visits to suit your schedule.
We also offer a problem focused first visit. This can be treated as a consult to examine a specific concern or to treat an emergency issue you may be having.
At each visit, our team does a medical history update and reviews any changes (even subtle ones). Even the smallest change in the soft tissues of your mouth will be examined closely. Early detection of oral cancer saves many lives each year, and our team is highly trained to detect even the smallest abnormality.
Who doesn’t love that freshly polished feel after a cleaning? Our highly-trained, compassionate registered dental hygienists do more than just polish your teeth. They remove plaque, tartar buildup, probe your gums for signs of periodontal disease, and much more!
While excellent oral health is a partnership between you and our team, we depend on you to make sure your teeth and gums stay strong and healthy between appointments. Together we can create an individual plan with the latest tools and knowledge to help protect your smile.
Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. But it doesn’t have to ruin your smile. A targeted, strategic cleaning schedule and a dedicated home care regimen can help keep this chronic condition under control.
