Porcelain Bridges

Bridging the Gaps

Whenever you drive across a bridge, you're being supported by the same principles that support a dental bridge. Crowned teeth on either side of a space are called abutments. They support an artificial tooth, called a pontic. While a bridge lasts for many years, sometimes the strain of supporting one or more missing teeth can cause the abutments themselves to weaken and may lead to more missing teeth.

A Better Bridge

There are times when a tooth needs to be extracted and it is not possible to restore the missing tooth with a dental implant. A time-tested option is to restore the edentulous area with a bridge. In this case, we place crowns on adjacent teeth, and bridge the gap by fusing a fake tooth (pontic) to those crowns. With high grade and high strength porcelains this can be an excellent option to restore esthetics and function.
